Data and privacy
What this version stores and sends. Updated 7 September 2026
On this device
Place visits, completed walks, favourites, language and theme are stored in localStorage. Marks can be deleted in Progress. Language and theme can be changed in the header; browser data cleanup removes all local preferences. No account is required. Backups are downloaded files. Importing a backup does not upload it to a server
Map providers and hosting
Opening the map contacts OpenFreeMap for map tiles, fonts and map symbols, and Mapterhorn for terrain. Providers receive the IP address and requested tile coordinates. These describe the viewed area, not a GPS reading. The site does not request device geolocation
OpenFreeMap normally does not log IP addresses; incident logging may last up to 30 days. Mapterhorn retains request logs for up to 30 days. The site is hosted on a Contabo VPS in the EU. Routine web request logging is disabled in Caddy; the server and hosting provider still process connection and security data

Analytics and advertising
GA4 loads when the site opens. Analytics can be turned off for 180 days under Data settings. The setting then resets. A session flag prevents analytics from restarting if saving the disabled setting fails. Advertising features remain disabled. Turning analytics off stops future collection and removes accessible analytics identifiers. It does not delete already processed reports
Google Analytics measures page views, city and walk selection, navigation exports and changes to saved marks. The complete query string of the current page URL is sent without filtering parameter names or values. This can include UTM tags, click IDs, catalogue state, search text and other URL parameters. Product event parameters contain only allowed city and route IDs, categories and counts. Google also receives a pseudonymous cookie identifier, browser and device characteristics, language and a coarse location derived from the connection IP address. Backup contents are not sent. Analytics cookies expire after 180 days without extension on each visit
Google processes analytics data on infrastructure that can include countries outside the EU. Event and user-level retention is set to 2 months; aggregated reports may remain longer. Deleting a local mark does not remove earlier analytics reports

Links and assistant access
Google and Yandex Maps open only through their links and then apply their own policies. Compatible browser assistants may read or change the current city and route marks through the page tools during assistant use
