Let the streets set the theme
The Camondo Stairs curve between street levels. Photographs need to leave the steps clear. Galata Tower provides an uphill landmark, but the approach follows the streets instead of a direct line towards the tower
Galata Tower can be a separate ascent, while the neighbourhood offers an exterior walk. Pera Museum is another possible visit before İstiklal. The avenue’s facades continue towards Taksim Square
Plan around the climb
Allow small pauses on the early slopes before tiredness builds up. If the group walks at different speeds, agree on a break near the tower. This is not a verified step-free route: finding an alternative to the staircase would require separate checking and would change the walk displayed on the map
İstiklal has a tram and pedestrian traffic. Browsing from one side reduces repeated crossings for photographs. Indoor museum visits require a programme and admission check. Sloping paving needs care in wet weather, including any downhill return

Before the walk
- A museum visit needs a separate place in the day’s plan, alongside exterior sightseeing
- Photographs need a stable landing. Cameras should stay packed on stairs, with space left for others to pass
- At Taksim, finish the walking section before choosing onward transport or another area to explore
- The line uses OpenStreetMap; closures, barriers and actual conditions may differ
- Tickets, museum entry and prayer access need separate checking
- All transitions are on foot on the European side; no ferries or transport are used
Check hours, tickets and access with each venue. Barriers may change the track and queues may add time. Accessibility has not been surveyed on site
Questions before the walk
Is the climb up Galata Tower required?
No. The tower remains a useful exterior landmark. Tickets, queuing and a visit to the observation level are separate decisions
Is this a Bosphorus waterfront walk?
No. It focuses on Galata, Pera and İstiklal. It does not replace a waterfront itinerary or include a crossing to the other side of the city
