Two ways to present the past

The City Museum occupies Skopje’s former railway station and holds collections about the city. An indoor visit can focus on one subject rather than a hurried tour of several themes

The Mother Teresa Memorial House is purpose-built, rather than a surviving childhood home. Its expressive form contrasts with the building at the route’s start. Inside, the focus can be the connection between a life and the city. Outside, it changes the character of the street

Following the river

Macedonia Square can be understood in relation to the Vardar without circling every monument. The Stone Bridge offers views back along the approach and towards the opposite bank. The river provides a clear orientation point

The mostly level route does not verify every kerb, approach or museum entrance. It was prepared remotely without an on-site walk. Continuing into the bazaar depends on remaining time and energy; its paving and later climb create a different walking profile

The numbered markers match the stops below. A marker does not guarantee an open entrance

Before the walk

  • Choose one museum subject before entering, so the visit is not driven by trying to see everything
  • A map check needs a stationary position outside the square’s main pedestrian flow
  • Take a break by the river before switching to the smaller streets and different theme of the bazaar

Check hours, tickets and access with each venue. Barriers may change the track and queues may add time. Accessibility has not been surveyed on site

Questions before the walk

Do trains still leave from the old station?

This walk visits the City Museum building. Rail travel requires a separate check of the operating station. This route does not reach a departure platform

Does the route include the Old Bazaar?

No. This sequence ends at the Stone Bridge. The bazaar can be a separate walk across the river
