At Gudiashvili Square, look at the houses and balconies, then compare them with buildings farther uphill. Stay on the street at the ruins of Mughni Surb Gevorg; the grounds are not intended for unrestricted exploration. The contrast between a lived-in square and fragments of a lost building reveals different conditions of the urban fabric without crossing barriers.
Lower Betlemi Church and the staircase introduce the route’s steep terrain. Find a stable place for each pause and leave enough room for others to pass. At Upper Betlemi, look back towards the lower streets and identify a familiar landmark. Notice the height hidden between nearby points on a flat map.
Let access conditions guide your visit
At Ateshgah, the surviving volume of a Zoroastrian temple sits within the residential quarter. Access depends on the arrangements in place; do not seek a passage through somebody’s home. Continuing towards Kldisubani, compare the small church’s position with the surrounding hillside houses. Observe how the street approaches the building.
Keep the Kaleidoscope House as an exterior stop: renewed admission to its entrance hall is not confirmed. The Museum of Illusions can be a separate visit, while the Great Synagogue requires respect for the active community’s rules. This final section returns your attention to lower streets. Stone steps become slippery in rain; after dark, choose a lower-street walk instead.
