Begin with the city’s history

Gori is more than Stalin’s birthplace. The historical-ethnographic museum and neighbouring city buildings provide broader local context. The route therefore begins with urban history rather than the museum pavilion over the small house. Exterior viewing can be separate from exhibition admission

How to view the museum ensemble

The main building has a lower arcade, an upper floor with arched windows and a tall square tower. The house under the pavilion and railway carriage are separate objects in the complex. Do not treat the exhibition as a complete account of the era: the personality cult, repression and victims’ experiences require independent historical context

Stops in route order

Gori History and Ethnography Museum — The Sergi Makalatia museum of regional history. Allow separate time for the collection

Dormition Cathedral — A cathedral among the restored streets of the old centre. Check entry rules and respect services

House beneath the museum pavilion — A small house preserved beneath a large memorial shelter. Part of the museum complex; access follows its rules

Stalin Museum — A monumental museum building with columns and a tower. Distinguish the architecture and exhibition from critical examination of repression and personality cult

Museum railway carriage — A railway carriage displayed in the Stalin Museum grounds. Check carriage entry separately

Access and planning

Check building and carriage admission with the museum. Track time covers walking, not a guided tour

Continue towards the fortress, or keep to exterior viewing if time is short
