White forms among the greenery

The auditorium’s red canopy and Oca’s low dome use simple geometric forms differently. View them from several open paths without needing to enter. The park provides enough distance to see each whole building rather than only its entrance

History and monuments

The Afro Brazil Museum needs time for a separate visit and cannot be reduced to its façade. The Bandeiras monument should be understood in the context of colonial expansion, including its consequences for Indigenous peoples. The obelisk adds another layer of civic memory beyond the main path network

Stops in route order

Monument to the Bandeiras — Monumental stone group beside the edge of Ibirapuera. Read the monument in the context of colonial expansion rather than as neutral heroism

Afro Brazil Museum — Museum of Afro-Brazilian history and art in a park pavilion. Allow separate time for the collection beyond the walk

Ibirapuera Auditorium — White Niemeyer concert building with a red canopy. View the contrast between the red entrance and white volume from outside

Oca Pavilion — Low white dome of an exhibition pavilion in the park. Walk around the dome using open park paths

Obelisk of São Paulo — Tall memorial obelisk beside the park ensemble. Use designated crossings over the surrounding roads

Access and planning

Roads separate the obelisk from parts of the park: use designated crossings rather than grass between traffic lanes. Check gate arrangements, museum tickets and Oca exhibitions separately

For a shorter version, focus on the pavilions inside the park; explore Paulista on a separate walk

Before the walk

  • Park paths and external crossings beside the obelisk
  • Walking time excludes exhibitions, queues and long breaks
  • Calculated using the OSM pedestrian network; not verified by an on-site walk
  • View buildings from outside; closed courtyards and interior passages are not essential parts of the walk
  • The obelisk approach uses a detour through pedestrian crossings; do not cross road barriers along a straight line

Check hours, tickets and access with each venue. Barriers may change the track and queues may add time. Accessibility has not been surveyed on site
