Circles, towers and the street
The round circus stands above Heroes Square and can be viewed from outside. A safe place to stop is needed before studying the architecture. King David’s two towers form a contrasting vertical outline from the surrounding streets
The former Adjara Hotel, now Holiday Inn, is another tall building to compare with King David. Window rhythm, proportions and lower floors distinguish the towers. A hotel, residence or business complex does not necessarily provide free access to a viewpoint
Horizontal volumes at the finish
The former Ministry of Roads dates from 1975 and is used by the Bank of Georgia. From a public exterior viewpoint, identify its intersecting horizontal blocks, then follow the open spaces between them. After the earlier towers, this arrangement becomes particularly striking. Compare the overall composition with the parts that are harder to understand when viewed in isolation
Heroes Square, 26 May Square and the Gagarin area require time for careful route choices. Photography does not justify crossing traffic directly. Long pavements and modest changes in height can be tiring despite the small number of stops. The final building can also be a separate exterior visit

Before the walk
- Choose an overall silhouette and one structural detail at each building
- Finish crossing a junction before concentrating on the architecture
- Stay in public space at the Bank of Georgia
- Choose crossings carefully at Heroes Square, 26 May Square and Gagarin
- The Bank of Georgia is a working office with restricted grounds; stop at a publicly accessible exterior viewpoint
- The walk passes through ordinary city neighbourhoods between architectural stops
Check hours, tickets and access with each venue. Barriers may change the track and queues may add time. Accessibility has not been surveyed on site
Questions before the walk
Is the former Ministry of Roads open to visitors?
Unrestricted tourist visits are not confirmed. It is an operating bank office; the route offers an exterior view without entering controlled grounds
Is this a good first-day Tbilisi walk?
Yes, for modernist architecture. Old Tbilisi and Both Riverbanks is the route for the historic centre and river
