From the lagoon to the former military post
Walk around part of the Palace of Fine Arts lagoon: reflections and colonnades change the rotunda’s silhouette. The Presidio brings a quieter scale of separate buildings and open spaces. The Walt Disney Family Museum is marked as a building, with its collection remaining an optional visit
The coastal section towards the bridge
Tunnel Tops links the upper Presidio with the direction towards Crissy Field. Farther along, the shoreline opens out and the bridge gradually becomes the main landmark. Reaching Fort Point does not require entering the fort or climbing onto the bridge deck
Stops in route order
Palace of Fine Arts — Domed rotunda and colonnades beside an artificial lagoon. Use open lagoon paths to see the rotunda from different angles
Presidio of San Francisco — Park above road tunnels with terraces facing the bay. Use open paths towards the lower waterfront
Walt Disney Family Museum — Museum in a historic building within the former Presidio military post. Plan the exhibition as a separate visit
Crissy Field — Former airfield with coastal paths and bridge views. Stay out of protected tidal-marsh areas
Fort Point National Historic Site — Brick fort beneath the southern span of Golden Gate Bridge. Check fort admission separately from the coastal approach
Access and planning
Allow for waterfront wind and visibility. Stay on paths around protected marsh areas. Check Fort Point opening arrangements separately; crossing the entire Golden Gate Bridge is not part of this walk
Finish at Crissy Field for a shorter day; the Marina–Presidio route connects the area with Fort Mason
